NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor”
I hope you all are staying safe. There is no need to brief you all on what is going on in the world right now because you should ALL be aware. The actions of this country's police officers have always been UNACCCACCCEPTABLE. Many of us may think that there is not much we can do to contribute to the cause, but there is! If you stand in solidarity with the Black community and are ready to get involved in the fight for justice for not only George Floyd, but the ever-growing number of Black men and women who have been abused and murdered at the hands of individuals hired to “protect and serve” I have some resources for you.
This is your first amendment right. There are numerous protests all over the world right now to combat police brutality. If you are looking to get involved this way, look for Facebook groups, hashtags, and Instagram story posts to find the latest protest locations. When discussing protests, it is important that this information is shared as privately as possible. Consider communicating through direct messaging or texts, rather than broadcasting these events. The less public officials know, the safer you are likely to be.
A couple protesting tips:
- WEAR A MASK. Not only to protect against the virus, but to keep you as unidentifiable as possible. Also, in the case of tear gas being used, a damp mask over your mouth and nose can help with breathing
- TRAVEL IN GROUPS. DO NOT go to a protest by yourself. Gather as many people as you can. Protesting by yourself can be extremely dangerous.
- EMERGENCY CONTACT. If you have not memorized your emergency contact, write it on your arm in the case that you are arrested while protesting.
For your convenience, I have linked a collection of petitions provided by the “Black Lives Matter” organization here. Even if you are located internationally, the website provides zip codes you can use to sign the petition anyway! Signing a petition is FREE! If you cannot afford to help financially, signing a petition is still powerful!
I have linked a collection of places and ways you can donate, courtesy of “Black Lives Matter”. You can find them by clicking here. Donations of any size are needed right now. Remember, there is power in numbers.
We can do this!
As a Black woman and an entrepreneur, I feel that it is my DUTY to help make a difference in any way that I can. Because of this, for as long as we are fighting this fight of injustice, Black Jewels will be donating a percentage of our sales to various funds, organizations, victims, etc. To all of you who are actively getting involved and standing up for our rights, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. We will overcome this TOGETHER <3
